RESEARCH

OVPRI

Formerly known as the Center for Research and Development (CRD), the name of office has been recently changed to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI). This strategic move was done by the University to respond to the increasing clamor for a more innovative, dynamic, and data-driven research climate. As breakthroughs in research are continuously evolving;  the University perceived the need to confront this issue by expanding the office to include two (2) more centers under its supervision, namely: The Center for Advanced Research and Innovation (CARI) and Center for Data Analytics, Informatics, and Computing (CDAIC). Each center is tasked to carry out researches that would  foster research productivity in the University.

Generally, the OVPRI is tasked to perform the following functions:

●        Formulate/review policies governing research in the University;

●        Organize trainings/seminars leading to development of individual research skills and capacities;

●        Provide assistance in developing research project proposals, identifying potential sources of research funding, and implementing approved research projects;

●        Monitor internally and externally-funded research projects of faculty researchers;

●        Assist faculty researchers in the protection of intellectual property rights;

●        Facilitate the dissemination of research outputs to local, national, and international communities

●        Conduct institutional researches and other projects commissioned by external agencies

VISION

The OVPRI envisions to  emerge as a Center of Excellence in Research in the region and in the global community.

MISSION

The office is committed to the promotion and cultivation of a strong research and development (R&D) culture in the University through the conduct of faculty and institutional researches in various disciplines.

RESEARCH AGENDA (FOR AY 2020-2021 TO 2024-2025)

The Angeles University Foundation envisions to become a center of excellence in research in Central Luzon. As such, the University has the mission to develop a strong research culture, inspired by a strong Catholic faith, in which its research outputs, basic or applied, would be showcases of novel knowledge generated towards the development of man for God and humanity.

RESEARCH AGENDA FRAMEWORK AND RESEARCH THEMES

In the past years, the University has implemented policies and logistical support mechanisms that have been favorable in upgrading the culture of research being practiced by faculty, staff and students. Following the review of the previous Research Plan for AY 2015-2020, a research agenda framework was built using a “Bottom-Up” approach in which each college/unit was engaged in identifying key research areas and strategies. From the data collected, a thematic analysis was performed by the Office of the VP for Research and Innovation to formulate a research agenda framework for the University.

At the forefront of the research agenda framework are the core values (Mabuti, Magaling, Malasakit sa kapwa) of the University, highlighting the essence of these values in every research undertaking of AUF faculty, staff, and students. The framework also serves as a guide in integrating research skills among AUF students in support of the realization of the University’s Institutional Learning Outcomes of developing graduates that are:

●       Values oriented

●       Socially and Ethically Responsible

●       Professionally Competent

●       Critical and Creative Thinker

●       Lifelong Learner

●       Globally Oriented

For  the years 2020 to 2025, the University envisions to produce research outputs that are innovative, inclusive, collaborative and responsive across major disciplines. Collaborative and multi-disciplinary researches as illustrated by the interconnection between colleges and units will be promoted to come up with relevant researches in key priority areas. In the next five (5) years, priority areas identified include HEALTHY COMMUNITIES; ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY; BREAKTRHOUGH TECHNOLOGIES; BUSINESS, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND HOSPITALITY; INNOVATION IN EDUCATION; ARTS AND HUMANITIES. Each of these priority areas has different sub-themes and research topics as shown in the research agenda.

RESEARCH OUTPUTS

1.1 Current Research Outputs

Presently, AUF has a total of 91 publications in Scopus-indexed Journals with total of 278 citations. The top 5 areas in terms of research outputs are Medicine, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular biology, Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Social Sciences and Computer Science. As evident in the data, a progressive increase in terms of research outputs and citations over the years is notable.

IV. Strategies to further Strengthen the Research Culture and Capability

A.     Continuing and strengthening capability building strategies that are in place

1.      Research Proposal Writing: The target is to increase the number of quality proposals that are suitable for submission for external and internal funding as well as increase the involvement of faculty who have not yet availed of internal nor external funding. This will involve active small group mentoring between and among seasoned faculty researchers and junior faculty members who wish to do research.

2.      Writing for Publication: To increase the number of manuscript submission for publication in ISI- or Scopus-indexed journals as increase the involvement of faculty who have not yet experienced writing a manuscript for submission to the above journals. The OVPRI shall provide assistance to faculty researchers in terms of manuscript preparation, data analysis, journal matching and article submission.

3.      Specific skills strengthening: Since one of the key characteristics of the present research agenda is innovativeness, programs that will strengthen the capability of the faculty on specific skills like, patent searching and analysis, patent drafting and patent application will also be instituted through the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) of the University.

4.      To come up with responsive researches, colleges and units will be guided in conducting researches that could serve as a basis for community extension programs and relevant policies.
